Problem with burning using DVDAuthor

When trying to output the files edited with DVDAuthor, I get a message saying "The combined bitrate of the clip exceeds upper limit of a standard DVD". This doesn't happen all the time, but is a pretty common occurance and I don't know what I'm doing different. Any ideas?
