I have installed Microsoft Windows 98 OS which was working fine until recently... now i have a problem with it.... whenever i start my computer... the Microsoft Registry checker starts automatically just after the windows GUI is loaded... it fixes the USER.DAT file first then checks for SYSTEM.DAT file.. when trying to fix this file the computer hangs and doesnt respond.... not even to CTRL+ALT+DEL....

i have tried to restore the registry to a previous date but there were no backups...
what should be done to overcome this problem... plz help....

Click Start/Run and type: msconfig and click OK. See if there is an entry with registry-stuff there, e.g. reg.exe or regwiz.exe etc.
Report here, and maybe we can help you further.
You can stop this in MSConfig by UNticking it. MSconfig will show at any startup, until you make this change permanent. Small price to pay...
