problems installing service pack 2

i just formatted my pc and got my all my windows updates.
i am having problems getting service pack 2 to install. eveytime i start to install it it says that the ftp.exe file in my system32 file is open and that i should close out all programs and retry. i dont have any other programs on my pc cause i just formated. any help will appreciated

I don't know what would cause that problem. But have you tried downloading service pack two as a package and then installing it?

SP2 was probably already installed with XP.
Right click My Computer,Propertys.Is it or SP1 listed there ?

it said service pack 1. thanks for your replys. i just decided to format again and that seem to take of it this time. but thanks again for your help
