problems reinstaling windows xp service pack 2!

  1. i am trying to reinstall windows xp service pack 2 but am having problems it keeps on saying the file "asms" on windows xp home edition service pack is needed.type the path where it is located.the preset location is GLOBAL ROOT\DEVICE\CDROMO\I386 but when i click ok nothing happens it just stays on that screen,can any one help.thanks

    Windows XP SP2 CD bought or a custom made CD?

    some cd rom drives have trouble reading cd's that have folders 4, 5, 6 or 7 deep within folders.
    this happens a lot with older cd-rom drives specially with asms which is a few directories deep. your cd maybe damage too. this exact same thing happened to me in december (trouble finding asms files). i had to change cd rom drive, and finally exchange the cd itself. it finally worked.
    try a different cd rom drive.
