Problems with HDD and DVD-RW!!!!

I have a Maxtor 40 GB HDD ATA133 and a DVD-RW(my system is a ECS A-939 and a AMD Athlon64 3200+ 2GHz). During this week i had several problems with my DVD-RW. Almost every time when i inserting a DVD in my DVD-RW my system is freezing.When rebooting for a time my system doesn't detect my HDD and DVD-RW.If i shutdown the PC completely and start it again it works.What's the problem...........................The DVD-RW its new(2 weeks ago i have bought it) .........????????

Make sure the hard drive is in it's own channel (Primary IDE Master) and set the new DVD R/W on it's own channel as the (Secondary IDE Master) not the Primary IDE Slave as I suspect
