I just got a new athlon xp 2800 which should run at 2.1GHz but when I installed it, System Properties said "Unknown CPU Type" 1.2GHz. My FSB jumpers were set to 100MHz, so I changed them to 166MHz which should be the correct setting for my CPU. When I booted, it got to the windows loading screen then a blank screen with my curser, then it rebooted. So I checked the BIOS and it seemed my processor was beginning to get hot so I switched back to 133 FSB.
So...why wouldn't my computer properly recognize the processor? And is that why my processor won't run at the right speed? I thought it might be the BIOS but this version worked fine with the athlon XP 2600 that I had a while back.
The mobo is a Motherboard brand, model V333U. It's got the via KT333 chip, with 256 DDR installed.
