Problems with ripping

Hi,

Running XP Home with SP2.

Have a QSI DVD/CDRW SBW-161 drive in d drive. I have not update the driver.

I use it to occasionally rip audio CD's using windows media player 10. However I often get jumps and jerks on play back from the library. It is as though the laser is 'skipping' when or jumping when it is reading the CD and that this translates to the copy. I have tried copying new CD's and have had this problem.

I have also had problems with DVD playback where the DVD will stall. This has occured both with Media Player (9 and 10) and power DVD - though less with power DVD.

Is it (as I suspect) that the device is faulty or is there a possible fix that does not involve a trip to the shops?

Will.

It could be a bad drive , corrupt driver or something is running in the back ground or IRQ conflict. Try going onto Device Manager and uninstalling the drive and then reboot the computer.

Are you suggesting that I reinstall the driver for the hardware? How would I find out if it's an IRQ conflict - what is an IRQ conflict. A clearer response would really help.

Will.
