that site will tell you everything you need to know. to permanently enable/disable processes from starting up, open the run command on the start menu, type "msconfig" go to services and startup tabs and check/uncheck boxes. another way to find non-windows processes is simply typing the file name of the process in a google search. this is also a good way to find viruses/spyware, etc.
 
Theres no right number. A better question would really be "Which processes do I want running", "Which processes can I remove entirely along with the associated program", "Which processes can I prevent from running on startup if I don't need them to", "Which of these processes are associated with spyware programs?" ;)
