I know that two celeron's with a difference in speed that great will run in different SOCKETs, so no :(

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your 501mhz celeron is a socket 370 cpu, while your 2.60 celeron is socket 478. That means you cannot swap cpu`s.

thanks
but now i have one concern
the emachines doesnt work i have 2 300 watt power supply's (the original and one purchased from comp usa) ive switched out the power supply but the new one doesnt work either any suggestions? also when i plug int he newer one i get a high pitched noise coming from the power supply. but if i unplug and replug the cord in several times i get a tiny bit of movement from the processor fan

The chances are, when the psu failed, it has taken the mobo with it. This seems to happen all too often with E-machines. See this thread HERE.

Regards Howard :(
