I had the continuous boot with the "program not found skipping autocheck" error following an un-installation of Norton System Works which included the worthless GoBack program.

I want to thank the forum members who addressed this issue in numerous threads and gave me the right solution.......PTEDIT. The hard drive was hidden thus the autocheck error and PTEDIT fixed the problem. I am glad I found this site, I have been working on computers for over 10 years, have my own computer repair business and had never experienced this problem before. Thanks to the knowledgable members here, I found the solution without have to re-install the OS.
