Programs slow opening - Windows XP

    When I go online there is a delay of about 120 secs when I try to open any programs. The cursor chages to an eggtimer but nothing happens when I click on programs or try to open the taskmanager. After about 120 secs everything I have tried to open appears on the screen and the computer appears to work normally. I can close programs down that are already open during this time. I am running Windows XP SP 2. I have tried an AVG virus scan, Adaware SE scan and Spybot SD scan. Any help ?

    if your machine isn't short on ram/performance then perhaps you have registry errors.
