Google’s depth-sensing Project Tango tablet made quite a splash when it debuted earlier this year but we haven’t heard so much as a peep on the matter since. That’s all changed as the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit recently surfaced on the Google Play Store.
There’s just one small problem: you can actually buy the thing yet.
The Play Store listing says the kit contains customized hardware and software designed to track full 3-dimensional motion while simultaneously capturing geometry of the environment. Yep, I’d say that’s a pretty solid description of what the slate is all about.
Specifically, we’re looking at a 7-inch tablet sporting a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 (323 PPI) powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 processor alongside 4GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage. It also has an infrared depth sensing, motion tracking camera system as well as other basic amenities like NFC and Wi-Fi.
The slate will eventually be offered in both black and white color schemes.
Word on the street is that the tablet will sell for a whopping $1,024 although I’m not sure where that figure came from as it isn’t posted in the listing (perhaps Google mentioned it at an earlier date). No word yet on exactly when it’ll be stocked for sale but seeing it show up in the Play Store is certainly a good sign.
