Proper way to install drivers

    Is there a proper way to install things on a mac? I've seen people using a mac that drag and drop stuff into other things to install them. I've got this dang network card problem - I check the device listing and Mac OS see's that something is in PCI-2 but doesnt know what it is. I'm stumped.
