if you have a nice component setup and the PS3 wouldn't fit asthetically.

What do you mean by that? Is the PS3 HDMI only from the factory? I have component cables that fit all 3 next gen systems, unless you mean something different.

:p

I meant it doesn't look good. People like me have a hd-dvd player (or regular one), a stereo reciever, a cd player, a digital cable box all in this nice black (except my cable box :( ) laying down rectangular fashion. Then all the sudden you have a tall massive PS3 standing there, wouldn't even fit in a lot of tv stands. Maybe you could lay it down on its side... but then it is still curved when all the other components are squared off.

I could probably make it fit somewhere on my setup, I already have a silver cable box and a Wii that stick out like sore thumbs, but people with very nice setups might just spend $500 or $600 on a stand alone bluray player that blends with their current components better.

I see no point in worrying about the look more than other things, but thats just me. I would lay it on its side, and I think it looks better than being squared off.

I would have to reckon with mopar. I could care less about the square look the PS3 is not meant to have things stacked on top of is. Laying on its bottom is the best bet i believe. I dont have all those things so the space i have inside my tv stand is empty because i still need to buy a reciever. But yet i am not worried because there are plenty of other things i need in life. I bought a game rack from best buy for my 360 and PS3 and it has been serving me well since then :D

There comes a point where aesthetics do matter. I am a bit upset that my power cleaner is silver unlike the rest of my components which are black. I'm even going to buy a high-gloss black case for my Wii so that it fits in better with the rest of my system. Sure, it doesn't apply to everyone, but it does matter to some. I'm sure at some point in your life these seemingly trivial things will matter to you too.

lmao i own the elite so my ps3 and elite look like a very nice happy couple :D

and when i get the entertainment center it will be black. yes I believe in the theme but you have to make sacrifice sometimes. My sacrifice was buying the gaming rack in which can get small when you own a lot of games been thinking about buying another.

Exactly. My point was that sacrifice to some would be getting a just as expensive stand alone bluray player rather than the PS3. My entire original post was arguing for the PS3 as the bluray player to get, with the exception of those that care about asthetics.

Now for me personally, there are a few reasons why I don't have a PS3, its look is one of them. If I had a cable box and a 32" hdtv then the looks probably wouldn't be a reason to not get one. But currently I have a gloss black TV stand, a black 46" Sony Bravia TV, Polk CSi 3 center channel speaker (gloss black), Polk RTi 10 mains (gloss black), a black HD-DVD player, black reciever, black 5 disk cd player. I have a silver cable box that looks pretty bad in there, and a white Wii, the Wii is small enough though that it isn't too bad. But on my TV stand I may not even have enough room at the edge to stand the PS3 on end, and laying it on its side on the shelves would look bad because it isn't squared like everything else.

You guys don't have to agree with me, but like Papa, I tend to care about how well things look together.

Take a look at this post in this same thread:

See how the Wii really stands out? I still haven't cleaned up all those wires, but you can't see them anyway since the entire second shelf is filled with a Definitive Technology (black & high gloss btw) center channel speaker. This pic is from when I was still moving into my new house, it's much neater now but my Wii, power cleaner, and cable box really do stand out in a bad way.

Hmm well LNC...i think all you need is some zip ties and that would help you out a lot and make it look neater. I have my set up with a 360, PS3 and stero that supports game mixing and a samsung TV and even though i have not spent a lot my wiring aint so bad. My room is rather small for all the things i have and i still needa buy a PC desk so i can start GAMING!!! I spend about a grand and have not done ne thing with it as of yet. I dont think a PS3 stands out in a bad way at all. I'd recommend buying a gaming stand for all your systems to go on. That way they all look coordinated and it gives a way to show ur stuff off. IMO

I used to have my PS3 on just a night stand with my PS2 lmfao now picture that and how it would look.

Ok so I see every body leaning toward the 360 as a better overall system between the two but what about predictions that Ps3 will out sell 360 thsi year by about 6 million units

matt1522 if the PS3 outsells the 360 this year this is why. From my post earlier.

They will sell more, and you are partialy correct. But I think the real push is with the major studios going blu-ray exclusive, on top of Toshiba putting out flawed 3rd gen HD-DVD players people are going to buy the PS3 for blu-ray. The current gen blu-ray players aren't even compatable with the new blu-ray spec (2.0 maybe?), only the PS3 is. It really doesn't make sense to buy anything other than a PS3 for playing blu-ray disks. The only reason not to would be if you have a nice component setup and the PS3 wouldn't fit asthetically.

I don't understand why people are so bias against both systems.. "Oh, s60 ROCKS PS3!" "No, PS3 ROCKS 360!"

To me, it's about the TYPE of games you play. Right now, since the 360 has been out longer, it has ALOT more selection of games, and somehow, stealing alot of exclusives that Sony was promised. But, it doesn't matter.. The RPG gamer will always stick with Sony, because of Sqaure/Enix, and Level5. The FPS gamers will stick with 360, because Tom Clancey sure loves Microsoft.

I for one, am a Sony fan, and also a BIG Sqaure/Enix fan. I love FPS games, too. But, I own and play mostly RPG's.. Sony fans are patiently waiting for Sony's big break through with it's exclusives. And I am one of those. But, there is one game that Microsoft hasn't got there hands on yet.. Which is.. SOCOM! Socom: Confrontation, soon come, soon come!

I understand what you're saying, but i would much rather have a PS3 in my lounge room than a 360. Who owns anything the colour of that?

Well i am not sure about the PS3 out-selling the 360 this year but if they do it definitely will be because of the Blu-Ray..So SNG ur deff right about that. I think gamers will eventually buy one when the price goes down because the 360 is still cheaper and if they make a SKU thats only 50-80$ difference from the 360 Elite then I think ppl would be more apt to getting a PS3. Almost every major studio is going blu-ray exclusively so that will help sony win this format war. But if Microsoft gets a blu-ray attachable add on player then you cant leave them out of the race. But still it will be an add on and a waste of money owning a 360 in which you'll have to buy a add on player for blu-ray. If you have a 360Elite and a PS3 like i said before they look good together. I'm going to take a pic and post it so you could see :D

SOCOM does not have a release date yet on the PS3. I bet it will come later this year around my b-day in OCT or NOV because thats when they usually release the SOCOM games. GTA4, MGS4, and a few Tom Clancy games are good ones to look forward too. I'm not really big on FPS i like RTS games but damn COD4 is awesome. The PS3 exclusive break-through will come later this year hope-fully

No GoW 3 isn't out.

The other day i was setting up my PS3 in the lounge room (it is usually in my room hooked up to my monitor) and i had it all unplugged and stuff, took it out to the lounge, stood it up, plugged in the power cable to the back of the PS3, got the other end to plug into the power point, i touched the metal part which actually inserts into the power point and i got an electric shock. Not a little static shock, but something more towards holding an electric fence, but not quiet as vicious. It was a tad surprising to get a shock from something that wasn't even plugged in. My PS3 had been on stand-by all day though, so unless it just decided to attack me i dunno, this shouldn't happen though right?

lmao, did it feel good, jtickner? ;P
Anyway, I am glad Blue ray is winning, because I liked it from the start.

Blu-ray is getting more backing everyday

Thats what happens when you plug yourself into a socket. It wasn't the ps3 but the actual current from the socket that got you
Actually, he wasn't holding it as he was plugging it in.

And Netflix just announced they are going to drop HD-DVD. Makes me sad, they were my only source for HD since I'm too cheap to buy $30 movies.

I heard netflix has been talking about releasing a box where you can order movies without using disks. I haven't been able to get confirmation on that though. If they did that it would stir things up a bit.

I know we are getting a bit off topic here, but I think with 40 posts per page and 11 pages that its bound to happen.

But if netflix does that, its going to have to be CHEAP, because I can build a PC for cheap (or take an old one and put a 7 series vid card in it (6200 won't work, I've tried)) and hook that up wirelessly or wired to my router and stream netflix movies. Then with a wireless mouse you are all set. In fact that is what I'm currently doing with one of my PCs.

But to ungracefully force this back to PS3 talk, if netflix wasn't DRM'd like crazy you could stream netflix to the browser on the PS3. I don't see that happening though with Netflix because they don't even support FF or Opera, let alone another OS like linux or OS X.

Edit: Interesting, just as I was saying I didn't think netflix would do it because of the DRM I come across this: http://www.seanbajuice.com/2008/02/11/netflix-coming-to-ps3-xbox-360-full-details/
“Now you can watch movies from Netflix instantly by using your Internet-connected Playstation 3. Simply insert a special Netflix disc into your PS/3 to enable instant movie streaming. The disc is available from Netflix for a one-time fee of $3.”
360 Users do it through Xbox Live apparently.

Blind Dragon. The cord wasn't actually plugged into the wall at all, one end was in my PS3 and the other was in my hand, i was about to plug it in then it got me. I just threw the cable out, i've got plenty laying around.

Yea The March issue of Maxium PC has steps of how to stream media from your PC to your 360, sounds interesting. I really dont see the point in streaming because yea if your PS3 and PC are in different room maybe theres a point but I'd rather just watch it on a PC. Well if your PC monitor sucks then I could see the point of streaming bcuz obviously your PS3 setup might be better than your PC setup.
