ps3 through cable box

Hey i hope someone can help me with thise question......I have my cable box connected to my tv through a dvi to hdmi cable now if i take my ps3 and connect it to my cable box through component cables will the ps3 be broadcasting in HD? or would i have to connect the ps3 directly to the tv with an hdmi cable to have hi def?

I believe that you have to connect it directly to the TV with either Component or HDMI cable. Either one will be HI-Def.
