I cannot access a PST file that was moved to my external hard drive, it contains a lot of old emails some that I need to look at again also is there any software that will recover old files/folders that may still be on my hard drive but I cannot access them.

Do you have Outlook installed on the machine you're trying to access it with? PST is an Outlook storage file used to backup your information from Outlook to be put back into Outlook. Until recently it's been a completely closed/proprietary format.

Thank you yes outlook is installed but no matter what I try it will not open, I see many many people have a problem with this file and I think Microsoft should be the ones to sort it out but if you have any idea's please let me know.

First, can you locate that precise PST?

Mine is located at
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*
Save the version here (like rename it)
and then copy the EXT:\Copy\*.pst to your profile area

Now launch Outlook; it should open the one just relocated

Gurkin,
what version of Outlook?
How big is the pst file? Earlier versions had size limitations and once it got too big you could no longer load it.
