just out of curiousity, if i was to upgrade my pIII system (see my profile) with an Asus A7N8X-VM (integrated video), Athlon XP 2000+ and 256MB of PC2100, would a 250 watt power supply be sufficient enough for the job? or do i have to shell out $$$ for a new one?

Well it's possible it would run, but I would definfitly recommend moving up to atleast a quality Power Supply of atleast 350w or more (Antec, Enermax...etc...)

More importantly, most AMD XP motherboards, if not all, require a 2nd 4 pin power cable that was not required for PIII's. Check that your PSU has this and also refer to AMD's approved PSU list.

i thought so, i guess its not worth it to upgrade this old system, so i wont do anything to it

I'd upgrade and run it off the 250w... I run all my computers off 250w generics, even the baby im on right now ;)

    I say go for it!

I know its not good to advise others to use hardware thats so 'risky', but to take my words is ones own choice.

You can do it, but it's definatly reducing the life of your parts by giving it such little power.
