    WOW just playing DOD and my computer shut off next thing I know smoke was coming out the back>is this what they do when they go bad or to low of WATTS was a 300 but not no more (put in the 450 from my other mach for now:confused:

    Sounds like your PSU died. Probably caused by something else, possibly power surge, or from excessive load.
    They don't usually blow smoke when they just up and die.

    Your CPU fan could have stopped turning.

    Actually I've had a couple Power Supplies die on me and one of them smoked, it was because one of the large capacitors inside exploded....

    I agree with Phantasm I think your fan stopped working and it just burned out the capacitor, which caused it to smoke.
