Quad core q6600 question

OK heres the deal, around november im going to be buying the q6600 for my pc, Now i know that there are few programs/ games that are out that actually Utilize quad core processors, but i still want to be future proof.
Anyways Say i was playing stalker, I know stalker Utilize's dual core but not quad, so when i play it with my quad will it only be able to use two cores or just one?? Overall i just want to know if games will recoginze the quad but only use 2 cores( except for crysis) Please help.

IIt should recognize 2 cores. I dont think you'll have any problems with it. As i played FEAR on my qx6700

hey bro if your buying your processor in nov wait a few cause in nov i believe penryn quad is coming out and it will be better than the q6600.

Ya i would get a penryn quad but the q6600 is just to good a deal to pass, new eggs sells it for 270 and i dont really have 500 for the new quad right now. Thanks though.
