Bill Gates, the Microsoft founder and the world's wealthiest man, is to receive an honorary knighthood for "services to global enterprise".

The recommendation that he receive the honour was made by the Chancellor, Gordon Brown. Buckingham Palace is expected to announce it tomorrow, when Mr Gates will speak at a conference on "Advancing Enterprise" organised by Mr Brown.

I take it the Queen is running Win98SE & wishes for a discount to upgrade to XP. WHy else would she agree to that ?

Maybe she believes she won't get the "Enlarge your crown by 4 inches !!!" Emails by 2006 like Billy promised. ;)

Knighthood used to mean something, but has been a silly title ever since they started giving it to celebrities.

Did anyone of you bother to read the story?

He's becoming a KBE (Knight of the British Empire) due to his involvement with the poor in the BE..

You can read it all here...

Had he gotten it due to MS influence, I think there would have been more protest...
