I've just bought a brand new PC and I've saved some money by getting it without an OS being installed. I have a Windows 2000 cd which I could use to get it up and running immediately or I can wait another week and get a copy of XP. I know its fairly easy to update to XP from 2000 and have done it before with no problems, but I've heard that the best thing for a new machine performance wise is to have a clean install of XP.
As its a new machine I have nothing on the hard drive I want to save, so should I just wait for XP does the upgrade completely erase 2000 with no problems?

Cheers.

No, "upgrade" will leave you with a messy Windows but you can always tell the XP setup to wipe everything and start over.
