brother has an old dell dimension and i reformatted it for him cause his hard drive crashed or what ever and i went to put in the cdkey thats on the side of the tower and says its invalid/already in use is there a way that i can reset that key so it will work again?

he got it at a 2nd hand store, just something cheap to use for the net
i believe its one of those comps from a school or something
any info would help thanks

What program did you use to reformat the drive in the first place? You may need to use a valid windows install disc, with a valid key

You need the original Dell OEM to use the prouct key on the side.
Nothing else will work. if you don't have one then you might be able to get one from Dell using your Service Tag, otherwise you'll need to purchase one.

What disk did you use to install the OS? It must be the same (Home or Pro).
I've used OEM disks on Dells with no problem.

hi

If u are using a dell OEM disc on a dell computer it will never ask for a product key till the time motherboard has been replaced-
