Question regarding external hard drive

I bought TurboCad for my husband. He wants it installed on the external hard drive. This drive does not have an OS. If I can install Windows XP, will TurboCad work on this seperate drive and how does it need to be accessed?

Turbocad needs to be installed on a C drive to be used. I think he wants to use Turbocad between systems. Each system would have to have Turbocad installed and he could move Turbocad created files between them using the external drive...
