Radeon 9800 and C&C Generals problem

Im desperat for help!

I have tried now for days to get my C&C generals to run.

My puter spec:

Dell Dimension 8300:
2.6 Ghz P4
1.5 Gb RAM 400Mhz (Kingston)
Radeon 9800 128 Mb

I get a DirectX error when starting up the game.

Error title - "DirectX Error"
Error Message - "Please make sure you have DirectX 8.1 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements."

I have done everything, atleast almost everything.

-Newest drivers on everything
-Have DirectX 9 installed
-Installed three different C&C patches including 1.07
-Installed it on a P3 1 ghz machine with a geeforce card - worked perfectly.

I dont know what else to do. Everything runs smooth on my puter except Generals which dont even starts up!!

By any chance, does your mobo have on-board video capabilities? Make sure it is disabled in your BIOS.

Do all other games that require DX8.1 or above work?

Everything else works just fine and the onboard video card is disabled.

What happens is that I get the first CnC General intro screen, then the directX error message pops up and ruins my day
