Hello i have been trying now for around 20 hours to get my newley added raid drives to show in winxp once it has booted to no avail!
my set-up is an MSI Mobo and is a MS-6570 on the motherboard it has 3 IDE channels and then two additional ports on the board for Sata hard drives so on ide 1 i have a 160 gig ide hard drive master with a dvd writer slave next on ide 2 i have another 160gig drive with a dvd combi drive as slave then on Ide 3 i have a 220gig drive master with an 40gig drive slave all above are IDE drives.
Then on the two sata slots i have two identical seagate baracuda drives both are 120gig.
When i boot the pc up i get a message saying press ctrl and f to enter raid setup utility so i do this here i can delete the array or build it or let it auto set it up i have tried several ways but the best seems to be auto and it then picks the tow sata 120 seagate drives and also another drive from ide 3 the 40gig one?
Anyway when i boot up into windows all the drives i can see in my computer are the 2 160gig drives and the 220 drive i have tried partiton magic 8 nothing from that also i did press the f6 key when loading windows to install the correct raid drivers but when windows got to the screen to choose the drive for the installation the only drives on offer here are the 2 160gis and the 220 gig
So next i loaded the msi utilty stuff one of them is called pam it lets you see the raid drives but i cannot do nothing with them and i can only see them in this pam software and not in my computer in pam i only see the raid drives.
Checked my bios and i dont have any options to set raid to raid 5 or whatever all i have is the ability to enable or disable the ide chanels and sata controlers on the board.
Sorry to have gone on a lot but i have tried to give you as much info as possible to maybe resolve this i would be so very grateful.
I am unsure if i am correct but to me it seems these drives need to be formatted before windows will see them the 40gig IDE drive that is being added to the raid has been but the brand new to sata segate ones to my knwlage havent but as yet i have never formatted a sat hard drive.
i did take all the drives out except one of the seagate sata's and poped in a windows boot disk to try to fdisk it but it didnt see the drive?
I KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT COMPUTERS BUT THIS RAID IS ALL NEW SO PLEASE BE KIND IF YOU REPLY AND NOT TO TECHNICAL.
