RAIDsters, your advice is needed.

  1. I've got dual, matching ATA drives, but one of them is currently the boot drive and it also contains all of my important data. I'd like to set up a RAID array so that everything is "backed up" on the fly (to the second drive). From what I've read, it appears that I may have to reformat both drives. Can someone confirm if this is true?

Ideally I'd like to keep my C drive as it is in this procedure. Can anyone share a bit of experience on this?

the answer to that has a lot to do with your drive controller, refer to the manufacturer's instructions. for performance reasons i wouldn't put two ATA drives in a raid array on the same channel/cable.
