RAM Help

I have an ASUS A7N8X-VM/400 originally with 512mb(2x256mb)

ASUS website states the motherboard is capable of expanding to 2GB (2x1GB) DualChannel DDR DIMM unbuffered non-ECC RAM 184p

I purchased the exact specification of RAM and installed it into the slots, however, my BIOS and Windows only read 512mb(480mb)

I updated the BIOS using ASUS website, and still to no resolution... the BIOS does not give me any option to adjust any settings relative to the Memory....

anyone have this problem or know how to solve it?
