Mmm. What mobo do you have?

Are both sticks of ram compatible with your mobo?

I take it your system runs fine with just the 512MB stick of ram?

Regards Howard :)

Here is a tip
If you are able to get the same type of RAM, you might be able to run it dual channel mode if your mother board supports it and it sure is less problems and errors :D

My Board Is cheap its just an asus p4pe-x/te, both ram are compatible to my board and my comp runs fine with just a 512 ram inserted.

yes, provided they are the same speed.

Generally you want to match ram with the same size, speed, and type.
Don't mix brands - it is prone to errors.

Coz in my mobo's manual book i've found a page which tells about SS & DS thing, i think its the combination of the ram.

What exactically are the effects today, look in your manual for any referance to the RAM module configurations re: 8 and 16 chip RAM... if there are no references written or in the chart for the combination of modules and there combination of the single and dual sidded I personally would not worry about it.
The problem with mixing 8 and 16 chip cards is that when it tries to write to the second bank on the 8 card it is not there so it gets a write error

I hope this answers your question, and solves your ram problem as well.

I assume you're referring to memory and not old 5.25 floppy discs!

(I'm showing my age!)
