I am having serious trouble with my laptop.

It used to have 512 mb of RAM, now it says I only have 192.
I dont know why. I used to run dreamweaver and photoshop no problems but now my system is really slow.

I have reformatted the laptop, ran a disccleanup, defreagged and run virus software so I assumer the RAM is the problem,

Please help.

Thanks,

Steve.

I've seen 'em come loose before, remove the battery, open up the RAM cover and check they're seated OK.

I assume there's 2 x 256 sticks in there {with 64Mb shared for Video}

Cheers folks, I e-mailed micrsoft too, they said The exact things above. One is either unseated or knackered.

Thanks for the replies.

Oh dear.
Taken both 256 chips out and, placed them in one at a time, they both work. Tried them in different slots and my laptop wont switch on when they are in one of the slots which means that the slot is broken.
Is this a common problem with laptops or is it just general wear and tare?

How much am I looking at to get it mended?

Sometimes the slot can be repaired with a little loving care and cleaning.
This is fairly common among less expensive laptops, and with Sony VAIO. I have only heard of it one time in a Dell Latitude, plenty in a Dell Inspiron, once in a higher end HP, and never in a Thinkpad T-Series that was not replaced by IBM/Lenovo.
