random IE pop-ups

  1. I've been working for hours trying to remove spontaneous IE popups. I don't even use IE, just Firefox. So far I've run AdAware, Spybot S+D, Ewido, and a cache of other programs. It seems a bit better, but I'm still scared. Thanks for the help.

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

    Boot into safe mode. See how HERE.

    Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

    In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

    Run HJT with no other programmes open, and have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file:///C:/Lea's%20Web/Main.html

    O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {4209B5E3-A748-4365-8345-D72B3DC10E3A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\itokq.dll (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

    O16 - DPF: {17492023-C23A-453E-A040-C7C580BBF700} (Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool) -

    Reboot into normal mode, and turn system restore back on.
