I'm running XP Pro on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop. Occasionally some (but not all) programs plus Windows Explorer will lock up. I can switch between the programs that still function using alt+tab, but the task bar does not work and the task manager will not open. Occasionally I will get HDD errors as well, though that may or may not be related. In general the computer is running extremely slowly and I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Also, these lockups last for 5-15 minutes and then resolve themselves for no apparent reason. The HDD light is not showing activity during this time.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is infected with a variety of malware.

You`re also running an outdated version of HJT.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as Attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.

Regards Howard :wave: :wave:

Panda found one file
C:\WINDOWS:AstInfo:
HIDDEN: True
IS_ADS_DIRECTORY: True

HIDDEN_FILES: 1
IRP_HOOK: 1
SDT_FUNCTION_HOOK: 9

That`s ok, just continue with the rest of the instructions and post the requested log files once finished.

Regards Howard :)

Log files... Not entirely sure if all of them ran properly to be honest. The AVG one didn't save a log the first time, and the second one says "cleaned" next to everything even though I had it set to quarantine. ComboFix never made a log or closed itself the first time it ran, had to run it a second time.

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel and uninstall anything to do with(if there).

viewpoint
viewpoint manager
viewpoint toolbar

Close control panel.

Click start/run and type services.msc into the run box and press the enter key.

When the window appears, maximise it. Double click on the following services(if there) and select stop if they are running. Set the startup type to disabled. Click apply/ok for each service you disable.

Viewpoint Manager Service

Close the services window.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:
NOTE* make sure to only highlight and copy what is inside the quote box nothing out side of it.
Also ..

Pay particular attention to this :-

Make sure the word File:: is on the first line of the text file you save (no blank line above it, & no space in front of it)
Code:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaya.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnn.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\geebc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\geedd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dcbeg.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nmllm.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nmllm.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\stutv.bak1
Folder::
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{3DE53B28-2B5C-4DFF-9F49-700D1D4699DF}]

Save this as CFScript.txt

Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

CFScript.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a fresh HJT log.

Run this CFScript.txt like you did before.

File::
F:\fix.exe
Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{92eb4738-d479-11da-b9ab-0016ce2304d2}]

Post a fresh Combofix log.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

Fix.exe

Close task manager.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or folders(if there).

F:\Fix.exe
C:\qoobox

Click start/run and type regedit into the run box and hit th enter key.

Navigate to the following regkey and delete the bold portion.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\m ountpoints2\{92eb4738-d479-11da-b9ab-0016ce2304d2}

Close regedit.

Reboot into normal mode and rehide your protected OS files.

Post a fresh Combofix log only.

That`s clean.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

Regards Howard :)
