Whats new people.

Yeah so my little brother got a brand new HP Pavilion DV4-1222nr Entertainment Notebook PC (its a laptop for you noobs) with Windows Vista 64 bit, ATI Radeon 3200 graphics, AMD Turion X2 processor, and 4 GB of RAM.

The problem is with the sound. It WAS working the first time we booted it up. But seemingly after uninstalling countless useless "HP" programs from the installed program list, the sound is permenantly muted.

Not in the sense of software. In Windows the sound bar is unmuted, and we tried testing several sound samples. The PC gave us several indications that the sound was working although we didnt hear anything. There's no errors or anything. Device Manager says its working properly. We tried uninstalling the audio drivers, and then its automatically re-installed them, and that didnt work.

The only questionable clue we have is that theres this touch pad icon on the keyboard part of the laptop itself, which is the icon for the Muted Audio. Touching this icon sets the Windows Audio Control to mute, which still works, but the icon, unlike all the others nearby which are white. is permanently red. It used to be white. There's a touchpad volume bar on the thing too, but i mean we tried all the obvious ways, but nothing worked. anyone got a clue?

thanks for your help

Disregard this post, the problem has been solved. We just did a factory reinstall of the software and drivers. Apparently you actually some of that POS HP garbage to make the freakin thing work.
