as the title suggests I just bought a WD Raptor 36.7gb. Problem is, when I go to load Windows XP, it takes like 8 bars to finally load when it took about 3 bars to load on my 7200 rpm hard drive. I used Bootvis to optimize my booting but still it takes 8 bars. WHats the problem?

my specs are:

MSI 915GM-FR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 800MHz FSB LGA 775 EM64T Processor Model BX80547PG3000F
Western Digital Raptor WD360GD 36.7GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
TOSHIBA Black IDE DVD Burner Model SD-R5372V
mushkin XP3200 Dual Pack 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
WIn xp Pro SP2 totally updated.

How did you transfer Windows to your new drive? Windows is perfectly capable of being dead slow on the fastest hardware. Try running some HD benchmarks to see if your problem is with the drive itself.

I am having a similar problem. I've recently bought a Raptor and sometimes i think what is all the hype about i dont see a hell of alot of difference? I may be wrong i am still installing software and will see what happens....

Inel 3GHZ
1.5GB RAM
74GB Raptor
250gb WD caviar
nVidia 6200 pci express
Asus P5dw2 premium

i am wondering whether i should enable them eg 32bit Transfer Mode in the bios?

thanx in advance.

I have since bought a Enermax 500watt PSU and it has solved my slow raptor problem. I did run hard drive tests and my raptor was upto standard, however it didnt feel like it.

The new PSU and doing some intensive Spyware and Adware removal has fixed the problem.

:)
