Realtec high def audio

I just got new Dell with Realtec High definition audio. Rear speakers work great in test mode but do not play any sound with any source of music. I am using Altec Lancing 6 speaker system

What kind of source?
be sure 6.1 surround is selected in the audio setup

I have the choice of stereo, quadraphonic, 5.1 surround, or 7.1 surround

Oh, as to your question of source....I have used U-Tube videos, Serious radio, various other internet radio, downloaded music from manolito, and MSNBC news .

ok i know Vista left out some codecs and i will research it in the morning
