Recording From Playback

Alright...I've got a simple question that I know nothing about. Basically, im trying to take whats coming out through the speakers and record it. I've got a SoundMax integrated audio card and thats about it. Ive tried a double-male cable coming out of the speakers and into the mic port with no success and I couldnt figure out how to record from line in. I have a feeling it involves something expensive, but I thought I'd at least ask if there was a simple solution.

Double click on your speaker icon in the sys tray. Click options, properties. tick recording, and in the box below, check off the items you want shown on the mixer. Usually there's an option "what you hear", if not, you'll most certainly want to check off wave (mp3z and other audio files), CD (duh!), line in, mic in, etc... Hit OK and put a check under what ever source you want to record. Launch whatever sound recording application you're using and go to town.
