Red Hat Linux 7.0

    Hi,

    I am not a linux user but i am keen to know about the linux.

    recently, i installed a redhat linux 7.0 on my laptop.
    the problem which i am facing is with the XCONFIGURATION. i am not able to configure the monitor for my laptop.

    But i skip the XCONFIGURATION process now i am working in command console.
    can you pls tell me how to change the XCONFIGURATION through the Command shell.

    and what configuration should i put for my monitor.
    pls help in explain what is vertical and horizontal SYnc.

    I am using Compaq V4118.
    pls also tell me the monitor setting for this laptop.

    Wow, RH7 is ancient. I really recommend you try something newer. Unless you have a really good reason not to, you should always install the latest version of your distribution. Not to mention, that everything has become a lot more functional and user friendly since the RH7 days. Try the latest from any of: Fedora Core, SuSE, Ubuntu, Mandriva. XUbuntu if the laptop is really old.

    But if you insist.. You can use the XF86config (I'm not that sure of capitalisation) program or edit the /etc/X11/XF86config file.
