First of all, thank you so much for your help so far!

The computer's symptoms include: Redirected searches from google links and overall slowness.

The antivirus program (Avira) found 12 different infections, which should be listed in the attached log.

We had FrostWire installed, but it has since been uninstalled.

Remove/uninstall from "add/remove programs" in controlpanel:
McAfee or Avira

Reboot, attach new hijackthis log, and tell how things are running ?
