Thanks to my brillian brother, our linksys router is fried. Actually, im not positive it was anything he caused, but the router fried after he plugged it in from one surge protector to another. Anyways, i setup a hub for right now, so at least all the computer can get onto the internet but the win98se computers are having problems, however my winxp computer had no problems whatsoever. When i go into winipcfg and go to release/release all it will freeze. Why would this be the case? If i go to renew/renew all nothing happens and i still get the ip address with the prefix 169.x.x.x, meaning that it can't find the router. Any ideas why i cant release/release all? Thanks!

Try the following things I learned in a previous post:

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) lease is renewed: ipconfig /renew

Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) cache is flushed: arp -d *

Reload of the NetBIOS name cache: nbtstat -R

NetBIOS name update is sent: nbtstat -RR

Domain Name System (DNS) cache is flushed: ipconfig /flushdns

DNS name registration: ipconfig /registerdns

This is meant for Windows 2000 and XP, but I imagine a couple of these should pertain to Windows 98 as well.
