Good news for anyone who can’t wait for Relic Entertainment’s upcoming Dawn of War III. The developer has released extended footage of the clip that was shown to press at this year’s E3, complete with narration from game director Phillipe Boule.

As community manager Kellie Goggins explains before the video begins, this is very early stage, pre-alpha gameplay, so it’s far from the final product. But despite a few missing and unbalanced elements (the Eldar will be a lot stronger in the final version), it still looks pretty awesome.

Five years after the last major expansion for Dawn of War II, the third game in the Warhammer 40,000: DOW series was finally revealed with a CGI trailer back in May. The first gameplay footage was revealed at E3, resulting in several publications declaring DOW III to be the 'Best game' or 'Best strategy game' shown off at the event.

The third entry in the series will combine the traditional RTS base building found in the original with Dawn of War 2’s focus on smaller squads and individual hero units – such as the rocket-launching, Gatling cannon-wielding Imperial Knight mech seen in the demo.

Video games based in the Games Workshop universe are seeing a resurgence right now - both Total War: Warhammer and Battlefleet Gothic: Armada were released recently.

In addition to DOW III, there are several other GW titles currently in development, including Space Hulk: DeathWing, Man O’ War Corsair, Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, and Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr.

Dawn of War 3 is set to be released at some point next year.

Will never understand this point of view, all of them look like monopoly. That's a shame because the mech actually looks good in first person so.. at least make it some kind of third person mixture.
