I decided to make my notebook my main machine and use my outdated desktop machine as a music box if you like.

As my desktop has the creative sound blaster card I assumed that I'd be able to log into the desktop (jukebox) through remote desktop on my notebook and play my tunes. This dosen't work as it seems you can't access the sound hardware on the remote machine.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can make this work.

Cheers

Connect the speakers to the desktop.

Even if you used some remote control program with sound support, the quality would be absolutely horrible.

Of course, you could install a decent OS like BSD or Linux on the desktop and use some networked sound system like ESD instead :)

Thanks for the advice.

Don't worry I've never been a fan of windows, just use it out of necessity. I'll look into your options.

If anyone else has any other ideas, I'd be happy to hear them...

It works!!

I just had to go to options in remote desktop and choose 'use remote machines sound' and waa la works perfectly and sound quality is just the same as not playing it through remote desktop.

BTW it is remotely connected on a wireless LAN.

The Linux seed has been planted, I've been looking at ubuntu and am quite keen.
