Hello everyone, in trying to help a friend with a problem with his XP pro system I have managed to completely jam his machine !! It stops during the boot up with the dreaded blue screen, even in safe mode. In case he has to reinstall XP is it possible to save his important files/docs by adding his HD to my computer as a second HD and extract files to my HD or a CD. I have XP Home.

Have a look at this thread and it should help you quit a bit. It's called a repair of your existing installation and it will allow you to keep all of your existing files, and fix the OS itself.
