Restarting on its own?

My dad has been having problems with his computer for a while now, probably close to a year. Originally, it would shut down when I was in Adobe Photoshop Elements and I went to resize a picture. I could do pretty much anything else in the program, except resizing it.

Several months later it starting restarting randomly, either overnight or while we were actually on the computer doing something. Recently, it's been happening at least once a day - normally multiple times. He said it normally happens when he goes onto a page with Flash on it (he can be on a phpBB forum with no problem at all).

He thought maybe it was an issue with his video card, so we got a new one and installed it... and it's still restarting. Anyone know what's going on?

The Photoshop thing would suggest something to do with load. My first guess would be faulty RAM, bad PSU or overheating..

Test the RAM and HD first.

There is a virus that can cause random system restarts, i had it a while back.
If the restarts are that much of a problem it may be worth reformatting your system, if it still happens then it is a faulty component.
