Hello all, how do we restrict a user from deleting files through a network (WORKGROUP)... let's say Computer A is sharing a common files which Computer B and C is needed to use/edit but not deleting them. I tried to apply the permission setting but still go nowhere, or perhaps I didn't set it correctly, please help me out. Thankx in advance

humm; think this over again. If I can edit but not delete, then the same thing as delete occurs if I edit/remove all data and save the empty file.

If you move to allowing READ-ONLY, then the files on the Share become templates that can be modified but only saved locally.

the 'simple' approach was noted above.

On XP/Pro, you could use the ACL permission system to force permissions, but
that gets complicated and not conveniently documentable for future reference.

you might also consider TWO different folders: one for full access the other R/O
and use different passwords for each; eg
folder-1/f1all
folder-2/f2rou
