Safe Boot Black Screen

I believe I have the trojan vundo. On a normal boot to xp sp3, I get a blank blue screen. When I boot in safe mode I get a black screen with safe mode in all four corners. In most forums the instructions are to cnt alt delete to get to task manager and to start explorer. My problem is that cntl alt delete is not bringing up task manager or anything. Cntl shift esc does nothing. I tried booting off of an xp disk to run repair and it locks up. I did get it to book off of linux but I don't know how to edit or if you can edit registry keys in linux. Please, please offer some advice. I do not want to have to rebuild this machine if it is avoidable. Thank you

If you cannot boot up in any mode, and you want to try to repair or clean your harddrive. Then you may need to use an excellent bootcd like The Ultimate BootCD (which can help you scan for Viruses, and also backup any important data)
