 A few weeks ago, when I built anew system with a Nvidia VNF4 motherboard and SATA hard drive, and installed WinXP Pro/SP2, at the end of the OS installation, a "Safe to Remove" icon appeared in the task tray. When i clicked on it, the popup read "Safely Remove ST3160827AS - Drive (c:)". Upon double clicking it, the Safely Remove window read " ST3160827AS - (sub) generic volume -( c ). Clicking <Properties> <driver> , c:\windows\drivers\VolSnap.sys. I tried to delete, but it keeps re-loading. I don't what effect this has on my system, but drivers for my Acronis disk imaging, backup sys, were also listed under properties. How do I delete the tray icon?

Try rightclicking that icon, see if it has any Properties or Settings or Options etc.
If found, uncheck the option to display in Systemtray, if it lets you.
Otherwise learn to live with it.
