Samsung recently held its first Analyst Day in eight years in Korea. During the event, the company outlined its vision for the future which includes among other things, bended and foldable displays. The latter will no doubt grab investors’ attention although Samsung admitted there are some hurdles that must first be overcome for foldable gadgets to become a reality.

A published slide reveals bended displays will ship sometime in mid-2014 followed by the arrival of foldable displays in 2016. We’ve already seen curved OLED screens and bendable prototypes from the company this year as well as a handset with a screen that wrapped around the edge of the device.

Elsewhere, Samsung is also planning to ramp up the resolution from FHD (1,920 x 1,080) and WQHD (2,560 x 1,440) on mobile devices to UHD (3,840 x 2,160) –otherwise known as 4K – by 2015. Ultra HD displays are already available in the form of high-end televisions but equally high price tags have kept them out of the hands of most thus far.

Why would Samsung go on record and announce roadmap plans for the foreseeable future when other companies like to keep secrets like that close to the vest? It’s all in the name of the event really as odds are, Samsung is hoping that showing their hand a bit will help ease investor relations. Samsung stock took a dive earlier this year over concerns that the S4 wasn’t selling as well as expected.

Are you gonna make boards bendable too? Wires usually dont take the stress off constant bending all that well in my experience....

4K displays on a phone? Hold your horses Samsung! We dont even have mainstream 4K TVs and monitors!
