Samsung has mailed out press invitations to an event on April 29 with the tagline “Kapture the Moment.” It’s widely expected that the Korean tech giant will use the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore to unveil the successor to the Galaxy S4 Zoom.

The new device is rumored to be called the K Zoom or perhaps the Galaxy K, not the Galaxy S5 Zoom despite the fact that it’ll likely be based on Samsung’s new flagship phone. Leaked specifications for the device hit the web earlier this month indicating a 20.2-megapixel camera (5,184 x 3,888 resolution) with optical image stabilization.

Some may argue that the Galaxy S5’s camera is already close enough at 16-megapixels but those people must be reminded that megapixel count isn’t everything. Sensor size is arguably more important and with a “dedicated” camera, Samsung would no doubt cram in a larger sensor for better image quality.

Elsewhere, the K camera phone is expected to have a slightly smaller displayer – perhaps around 4.7 inches. It’s also believed to have a lower resolution display at 1,280 x 720 versus the 1,920 x 1,080 screen found on the S5.

Under the hood, however, is said to be a six-core Samsung Exynos 5 Hexa SoC with two ARM Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.7GHz and four Corex-A7 cores ticking along at 1.3GHz. That’s certainly different than the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 in the S5 but then again, this device will be more about the camera than anything else. Having more cores clocked at a slower rate will likely give the device an adequate blend of performance and battery life.
