Samsung sent out invites late Friday calling to “save the date” for 10AM EST on August 15, with the company planning to announce its latest Galaxy hardware for US consumers. The event will take place at an undisclosed location in San Francisco and is expected to revolve around either the second-generation Galaxy Note smartphone or the launch of a new Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.

“Please join Samsung Electronics America for a major announcement and unveiling of the newest Galaxy device. An exclusive press conference will take place where full details will be disclosed.” the announcement read. Exactly what the electronics giant plans to unveil is currently uncertain.

The latest rumors for the Galaxy Note 2 suggest it will appear by October, alongside Apple’s next iPhone, so a release in August would seem unlikely given how well their current Galaxy SIII flagship is selling.

Also, the invite came from Samsung Electronics America, not Samsung Telecommunications America, who usually handles smartphone launches. Therefore it’s more likely we’ll see Samsung announce the Galaxy Note 10.1, which went up for pre-order recently and is yet to be officially released following its MWC unveiling.

Internal documents read by Engadget suggest the firm will also launch its T699 slider, branded as T-Mobile’s Galaxy S Blaze Q smartphone, on the same day.  The device will include a full qwerty slide-out keyboard with a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 chip, 1GB RAM, Android ICS and a 4-inch 720p HD display.
