Sata Complications

Now i have read in other posts and from my research have concluded that my motherboard (asus p4p800s-x) when connected to a sata hard drive causes many faults experienced by many users. For example a powering down sound that causes the hard drive to crash, slow transfer rates, etc. I have tried another sata hard drive myself and still the same problems. Ive attempted upgrading my bios, to my sata drivers and still nothing. Now i want to fix this problem without buying a completely new motherboard, so i was wondering if i used a pci sata controller, that would i run into the same problems and waste my money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

maybe you can still send board back
be careful about pci device boots some bios's will not allow
