Sata HD error

Hi guy's,

Can some try and help me out here. I'm a stuck and don't know where to turn.

I've just bought a 200gig sata hard drive for my PC. I already own a 30gig and a 200gig IDE of which the 30gig is the master as this drive has always had the o\s installed, in this case XP.

As soon as I connect the SATA HD to the mother board, the PC returns the fllowing errors whilst booting: -

Scan Devices, Please Wait
Press Tab Key into Windows

then

Hardware Initiate Failed, Please check device,
The Bios does not be installed. Press g to continue.

The computer then boots into Windows as normal but the HD is not recognised by XP. I'm assuming the HD in broken, or for some reason my PC motherboard does not have SATA drivers installed.

Can anyone help,

Thanks,

goto [my computer (right click)> manage> disk management]
confirm that your drive is detected there.

If yes, you can use that to initialise (1st time formating/partitioning) the drive or alternatively download the HDD initialising software from the drive's respective manufacturer.

If no, you may need to do abit of troubleshooting:

-download the driver diagnostic app from the manufacturer's website

-update BIOS and chipset drivers for your mobo, confirm in BIOS settings that primary boot devices are your 30gb windows hdd, and not the SATA etc..

take a read from your mobo manual or post any settings that you dont understand here..
